These off-the-grid structures on Mount Desert Island are a new take on shingle-style architecture. In the foreground, a guesthouse accompanies the main house for extra hosting space. Taking cues from the massing of the original house, the new project was designed to feel like a complete set—both with single-pitched sloped roofs, similar geometries, and overall design.
