5 Fabulous Kitchens

Where would we be without the kitchen? It’s where families go to gather, kids hunker down to tackle homework, and life-giving food is made. Here are five kitchens that marry form and function to win us over with dazzling beauty.

This kitchen pushes the envelope of design with dual islands, perfect for hosting, gathering, and prepping. Behind the islands, a custom wooden hood continues to surprise. “I would have thought to do a white hood here,” says Louise Hurlbutt, the interior designer of this project. “But when I saw the wood, I absolutely loved the builder’s choice. All his work is totally custom.” Photo by François Gagné.

This cathedral-like, open kitchen feels airy and earthy, with windows pointing to the surrounding woodlands. Its white hues transition from the pickled wood ceiling and walls to a more solid color on the cabinetry. The countertops are honed Olympian White Danby marble to complete the look. From the publication Remodelista in Maine, this robin’s egg blue kitchen makes a mark in Maine design. The homeowners who restored this old farmhouse used period accents to replicate its authenticity, keeping the weathered, wood ceiling exposed for an added layer of nostalgic beauty. Designed by Laura Walsh Interiors, this classic blue-and-white kitchen features a boldly colored island with hanging dual pendants above. Paired with woven island chairs, we would love to be a guest in this house. Any excuse to spend time in this coastal, airy space… Photo by Jessica Delaney.

Eyder Curated Kitchens + Home went all English in this space. Inspired by the countryside aesthetic, a portable kitchen island sourced from Portland Flea-For-All adds convenience and timelessness. Plus, that green of those cabinets is just divine. Photo by Erin Little.
