Only if we could wrap Maine in a perpetual summertime…But then, the charm and warmth of the fireplace would be obsolete. So if anything, the silver lining we find from the harsher realities of Maine fall and winter is a cozy fireplace. Here are five fireplace designs that we are dreaming of as the days grow shorter and colder.

Architects Maria Berman and Brad Horn of Berman Horn Studio designed their dream getaway on Vinalhaven Island. The living room houses a long, skinny fireplace that emphasizes the height of the ceiling, where a bird sculpture flies free. Photo by Maura McEvoy for The Maine House.

What better place to hunker down than in front of this stone fireplace at a Georgetown home? Though the fireplace was original to the home, design team Nicola’s Home came in to maximize the cozy vibes with new two new benches, throws, and pillows. Photo by Erin Little.

This Cape Porpoise home oozes charm in every nook and cranny—and of course, this rustic stone fireplace is no exception. Dry stacked by stonemason Brian Fairfield, it just belongs in this formally designed historic captain’s home. We are picturing long nights gathered around it with a good read and glass of wine. Ariana Fischer has made her name known as a designer for moments like this. A regal blue fireplace and two rich, velvety armchairs are the epitome of delicious design. Throw in a beautifully paneled ceiling and a complimentary painting to hang on the mantle, and we’re sold. Photo by Erin Little.
